Adele has claimed her alcoholic father walking out on her when she was three years old led to her ‘inevitable’ divorce from Simon Konecki.
The singer, who released her highly-anticipated fourth studio album ’30,’ on November 19, revealed during a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey that she believed her split was ultimately a result of what she experienced as a child.
She said: “I hurt them first, not in a malicious way, but to protect myself.”

She went on to reveal that the breakdown of her marriage left her feeling ‘disappointed’ in herself, saying: “I take marriage very seriously and it seems like I don’t…That’s what it should be. When we have kids, we stay together, and I tried. I was so disappointed for my son, I was so disappointed for myself.”
Adele began dating Konecki in 2011 and a year later he accompanied her to the 2012 Grammy Awards.
It was initially reported that they got married in 2016 after the singer referred to him as her ‘husband’ during an acceptance speech. However, the ‘Easy On Me’ singer recently revealed they didn’t actually marry until 2018 and she’s now ’embarrassed’ that the marriage didn’t last ‘very long’.
She told Vogue: “I’m not gonna go into that detail, remember I am embarrassed. This is very embarrassing. It wasn’t very long.”

Along with opening up about her divorce, Adele also spoke about her weight loss and revealed she was left ‘disappointed’ by the world’s reaction to her new look.
She said: “I understand why some women especially were hurt. Visually I represented a lot of women. But I’m still the same person.
“And the worst part of the whole thing was that the most brutal conversations were being had by other women about my body.
“I was very f***ing disappointed with that. That hurt my feelings.”
She also revealed she now works out three times per day in Los Angeles where she lives with her son, Angelo.
