A bar worker has claimed she received ‘horrific abuse from her manager’ after handing in her notice at the pub.

Kiara Clair, 18, began working at The King’s Ransom pub in Sale in May after she was furloughed from her previous job.

However, she apparently found a new place to work, so decided to send the pub’s assistant manager – known only as John – a text to explain that she would be leaving soon.

In the message, she is believed to have said: “The trial shift has gone amazingly today and they want me to start whenever I can. I will be handing in my notice tomorrow when I come in.

“I can’t thank you and the rest of the team more than enough for giving me a job.”

Despite Clair’s message being as polite as possible, John reportedly didn’t take the news well and sent a lengthy text back in response.

He apparently replied: “Kiara. My love. It’s my wedding day. I don’t give a toss if you’re employed or not.

“And whilst we’re doing this, as you have had the level of disrespect to message me, with this meaningful nonsense. ON MY WEDDING DAY. I would like to give you some home truths.”

John then went on to tell her that she’s ‘too focused on how she looks,’ and was a ‘useless employee’.

He continued: “You would rather text than do your job. You should be embarrassed about this. But hear my words. Because they will do you a favour. Nobody is interested in YOU.

“Your work ethics are the only thing [that] matter. Focus on the job and stop focusing on yourself. Beauty will fade. Dumb b**** is forever.”

In an interview with Manchester Evening News, Clair claimed that she initially thought the text had to be a ‘joke’.

She explained: “When he messaged me, I thought it was a joke because that’s just my personality, I try not to take things too seriously.

“It was only until the next morning when I reread it that I started to get upset about it because the way it had been set out looked like he was being quite serious about it.”

She then told the publication that she suffers from ‘anxiety’ and the message ‘knocked’ her confidence.

Clair also said that her mum decided to confront the pub’s manager on the text but John has reportedly denied ever having sent it.

However, the manager has addressed the incident on Facebook and claimed an ‘investigation’ is taking place.

They wrote: “As the General Manager of The Kings Ransom, I would like to assure you we take matters like this very serious and the matter is currently being investigated as a matter of urgency.

“I would like to apologise on behalf of The Kings Ransom for any distress caused.”
