Charlize Theron has said that she ‘didn’t feel safe’ filming Mad Max alongside Tom Hardy.

The explosive claims about the A-list pair have been shared in actor Kyle Buchanan’s new book, ‘Blood, Sweat, and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road’.

According to an extract, that has been shared to Vanity Fair, Theron said: “It got to a place where it was kind of out of hand, and there was a sense that maybe sending a woman producer down could maybe equalize some of it because I didn’t feel safe.”

Apparently, when making the hit film, the camera operator Mark Goellnicht witnessed a particularly uncomfortable moment between the pair.

It’s believed that on one day of production, Hardy turned up to the set three hours late and Theron – who at the time was balancing work and motherhood – confronted the actor, supposedly dubbing him a ‘f***ing c***’ and ‘disrespectful’.

At this point, Hardy allegedly ‘charged up to her’ and was ‘quite aggressive’.

Following the alleged incident, Theron reportedly requested that a producer accompany her at all times on the set.

Reflecting on the situation afterwards, she is believed to have said: “Now, I have a very clear perspective on what went down. I don’t think I had that clarity when we were making the movie. I was in survival mode; I was really scared s***less.”

Before the book’s claims came to light, rumours that the Hollywood stars didn’t get on already existed.

Shortly after Mad Max was released, Theron reportedly told Wall Street Journal that the pair ‘struggled so much’.

“Maybe the movie is what it is because we struggled so much with each other, and those characters had to struggle so much with each other,” she said.
