A Cristiano Ronaldo Valentine’s Day card has been removed from the Moonpig site following an outroar.
A likeness to the Manchester United player was used to sell the controversial card, which read: “Nothing will stop me scoring this Valentine’s Day.”
After seeing it on the site, many people took to Twitter and questioned whether it was appropriate, due to allegations he faced about ‘sexually assaulting’ former model, Kathryn Mayorga, in a Las Vegas hotel room 13 years ago.

Alongside an image of the card, one questioned: “Who signs off these ludicrous ideas?”
“What the f***,” another added.
Jokingly, a third remarked: “£3.50 theft.”
“No wonder they removed it from their website!” a fourth wrote.
However, others argued that as Ronaldo never faced any criminal charges, the card should have been completely fine remaining on the site.
Defending the footballer, one wrote: “Since when does an accusation make someone guilty?!”
In agreement, a second commented: “World’s gone soft.”
“Even people who are never found guilty and cleared are still smeared with the brush,” a fan fumed.
A fourth Twitter user pitched in, saying: “‘Never faced criminal investigation,’ so this is basically a case of mud sticks.”

Following the backlash, Moonpig released an apology in which the company stated it never intended to ‘upset anyone’.
A representative told the Mirror: “It’s never our intention to upset anyone, we take pride in delighting our customers and go to great lengths to provide an exceptional range and service to them.
“When concerns were raised about this card, we removed it immediately from our site.”
