Gangs of London, the most violent show on British TV, is back and bloodier than ever for season two.

The crime drama, which was dubbed a ‘modern Peaky Blinders’, is set a year after the events of the first series.

Game of Thrones star Michelle Fairley, who stars as merciless mob wife Marian Wallace in the show, said that the violence is on ‘steroids’ in season two.

She also warned that the latest episodes are definitely ‘not for the faint-hearted’.

The second season has taken a bit longer than expected due to the pandemic, with the first series of Gangs of London coming out in April 2020.

The anticipation for the next part of the crime thriller has been growing, with one fan on social media saying it’s been a ‘long time coming’.

Actor Orli Shuka, who plays Luan in Gangs of London, told It’s Gone Viral that the upcoming season will be full of ‘action, blood, and violence’ and teased some mind-blowing action sequences.

Shuka joked: “This is a violent show, basically we got a lot of blood, blood, blood everywhere.

“We don’t have unicorns, we don’t have rainbows, it’s not a fairytale. We are still in gangster territory.”

Along with the trailer, the official synopsis further teases the latest action-packed episodes.

It reads (spoilers for season one): “One year after the death of Sean Wallace and the violent reckonings of series one, the map and soul of London has been redrawn.

“The surviving Wallaces are scattered, the Dumanis broken and estranged, and Elliot is now being forced to work for The Investors.

“To restore order, The Investors have aligned behind heroin baron Asif Afridi and together they have installed a new ruling force in London in the form of a brutal gang leader — Koba.

“His vision for the criminal landscape is a dictatorship, a world in which old-school gangster codes don’t exist and in which he holds a complete monopoly over London’s drug trade.

“But this monopoly can’t last forever. The gangs are fighting back — who will win the battle for London’s soul?”

The first season of the show got a reputation for its gripping, hard-hitting fight sequences, along with its brutal action, which NME described as the best ‘you’ll see on TV’.

NME writes: “Evans’ fight scenes are the best you’ll see on TV.

“Whether it’s someone slicing his way through a pub armed with a single dart, or a battle in which a mattress becomes a deadly weapon, each fight – and there are many – is imaginatively devised and expertly staged and edited.”

The first season of Gangs of London won four BAFTAs and was nominated for an Emmy award, and now the anticipation for the second season is now building.

In the first series of the show, there were 113 deaths, which was almost triple the amount in Game of Thrones’ first season, a show that has a reputation for gruesome fatalities.

The second season of Gangs of London will see a majority of the cast return, including Sope Dirisu as undercover detective Elliot Finch and Michelle Fairley, who’s best known for her role as Catelyn Stark in Game of Thrones.

Director Corin Hardy knew exactly what fans wanted to see in the latest episodes, revealing he aimed to ‘really push [the violence]’ as far as it could go.

He also told IGV that he’s filmed the death scene he’s ‘most proud of in his career’.

Hardy added: “There’s a lot of deaths, but it’s important to honour the characters in those moments.”
