James May has revealed he is happy that Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond are not involved with his latest TV show, James May: Our Man In Italy.

In an interview with the Daily Express, May explained why he prefers making programmes without his long-time co-hosts.

When asked if he had spoken to Clarkson or Hammond, May responded: “No, I didn’t phone them up, I was pleased not to have them [here] to be honest.

“When I am making a TV show by myself, I can just keep going, it’s great until the crew tell me to shut up.”

Alongside The Grand Tour, the 59-year-old presenter has another highly rated show on Amazon Prime called James May: Our Man In China.

The trio have worked together for 20 years on iconic shows like Top Gear.

Like May, both Clarkson and Hammond have also had success with their solo ventures too, such as Clarkson’s Farm and The Great Escapists.

Although they no longer do live studio episodes of The Grand Tour, the three of them are still shooting specials that see the presenters do tasks and challenges in specific countries.

May revealed in an interview with BT when the next episode will be, by saying: “It will be coming out later this year, but they haven’t decided when yet. I’m not being secretive; they just haven’t decided. After that, we’ll just have to see.”

When asked how much longer will do these specials, he provided an amusing response by stating: “We’re all knocking on a bit. At some point, we’ll all be past it or one of us will die. But at the moment, it’s still working.”

James May: Our Man In Italy is set to release on July 15 on Amazon Prime.
