Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s former marriage therapist has reportedly claimed that the pair engaged in ‘mutual abuse’ throughout their relationship.
Dr Laurel Anderson appeared as a witness on April 14 in the actor’s defamation lawsuit.
When the therapist was asked whether Heard had reported any violence from Depp, she reportedly stated yes and claimed she’d seen photos, but she couldn’t remember when exactly.

When asked whether ‘there was violence from Mr Depp toward Amber,’ she reportedly said: “Yes, you’re right.”
Dr Anderson apparently continued, claiming: “He had been well controlled for, I don’t know – 20, 30 years, and both were victims of abuse in their homes, but I thought he had been well controlled for decades.
“And then with Ms Heard, he was triggered and they engaged in what I saw as mutual abuse.”
Explaining what she meant by this claim, she continued: “Sometimes – I know she led on more than one occasion and started it to keep him with her because abandonment and having him leave was her worst nightmare. And I think he may have initiated it on occasions too. That I’m less sure of.”

Dr Anderson reportedly claimed that for the Aquaman star, it was ‘a point of pride to [Heard] if she felt disrespected to initiate a fight,’ alleging: “If he was going to leave her to deescalate the fight, she would strike him to keep him there – she would rather be in a fight than have him leave.”
Depp is suing Heard over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018. In the piece, she apparently described herself as a ‘public figure representing domestic abuse’. The actor believes that although his name wasn’t directly mentioned, it was implied that he is a domestic abuser.
His former wife is also countersuing him, having alleged that Depp launched a ‘smear campaign’ against her.
