If you’re searching for the perfect holiday hotspot to hit up this summer, look no further than Europe’s equivalent to the Maldives – which is just three hours away from the UK

Holiday-goers tend to opt for the most picturesque and Instagram-ready locations where they’re a stone’s throw away from a piña colada when planning on booking a vacation.

Spending 10 hours and a hell of a lot of money on a flight to the Maldives sounds like a lot for some people, which is inevitably why they opt for a destination closer to home.

Thankfully, there’s a new viral location that everyone’s talking about – and it’s being dubbed Europe’s answer to the Maldives.

Find out the top things to do in the Maldives below…

The picturesque location goes by the name of Ksamil. The holiday hotspot lies on the Albanian River in the Butrint National Park, Sarandë, on an archipelago of the same name.

It has dreamy white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and weather we can only dream of. Seriously, what more could you ask for?

The striking island is so close to Corfu that you can actually see the Greek island, but those staying on Corfu’s satellite islands may not know of Ksamil.

If you’re looking to pack your bags and visit the underrated holiday spot, you’ll be open to options and will be able to stay in one of its small hotels, guesthouses or apartments before enjoying your days at one of its three main beaches.

Many people who visit the island participate in activities such as swimming, snorkelling, and relaxing on one of the many reclining chairs spread out across the beach.

While those not interested in a beach holiday can enjoy the archipelago’s other features, such as the Salt Lagoon in Lake Butrint, the Cave of Kreshmoi and the UNESCO City of Gjirokaster.

If you’re looking for white sand, crystal turquoise sea and great prices – Ksamil in Albania is a great budget friendly holiday option. Top things to know: ✈️ Fly in to Corfu and get the ferry to Sarande. Alternatively fly to Tirana and drive 4 hours to Ksamil. 🍺 Key fact: you can get a pint for £1.50. 😃 The locals are very welcoming of tourists, we didn’t have any safety concerns whilst there. 🗓️ We visited in May when the beaches were almost empty and the weather was good. May, June and September will be much less busy than July and August. 🏛️ There’s more than just beaches. The ancient city of Butrint is just 5 minutes away on the bus. 🍝 Restaurant meals from as little as £2.50. 🏠 Our two bedroom apartment was £35 per night. #ksamilalbania #ksamil #albania #bestbeaches #cheaptravel #budgettravel #maldives #thetravelmum
