Former Japanese princess Mako Komuro is now ‘working in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art,’ according to The Japan Times

The eldest daughter of the country’s heir to the throne is believed to be offering her services to the art site on a voluntarily basis after she gave up her title to marry Kei Komuro, a ‘commoner’ who she met while at university.

The publication claims that the former princess’s name isn’t on the official staff sheet.

It’s believed she is working on an exhibition at The Met, which centres around paintings of the life of a Buddhist monk who travelled around Japan.

Before moving to the US, the 30-year-old was reportedly a student at the International Christian University in Tokyo.

It’s believed she went on to study Art History at the University of Edinburgh in 2012, before completing a master’s in an art museum and gallery studies at the University of Leicester in 2016.

When Komuro met her current husband, it’s believed she decided to give up her Royal status. Currently, this is a custom for Japan’s females who decide to marry someone without imperial status. However, this rule doesn’t apply to males.

According to the BBC, the former princess faced criticism for her choice of spouse, due to the repercussions she would face.

At the time, she reportedly said: “I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused and I am grateful for those who have continued to support me. For me, Kei is irreplaceable – marriage was a necessary choice for us.”

The publication also reports that her husband doubled down on his love for his wife at a press conference, saying: “I love Mako. We only get one life, and I want us to spend it with the one we love.

“I feel very sad that Mako has been in a bad condition, mentally and physically, because of the false accusations.”
