Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy has excited fans by revealing that the script for the upcoming movie is ‘close’ to being finished.

The actor, also known for playing Scarecrow in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, recently spoke to Today FM to provide an update on the film.

The movie is expected to take place after the finale of Season Six.

When asked if the movie is going to happen, Murphy responded: “Yes, I believe so, I’ve still not read it (the script) but that’s the plan, the plan is to make a film and to continue the story but in the cinematic world rather than on the television.

“The television part of the story is finished. If there are more stories to tell, I’m there I just haven’t read it yet but it’s close apparently.”

Show creator Steven Knight has also previously provided an update on the progress of the film, along with a spinoff series.

He told Radio Times: “Nearly nearly nearly, it’s almost there. So, you know, we’ve got the shooting schedule, we’ve got the dates for when we start, so that’s all going to happen.”

Knight then added that the film will likely take place during World War II while including ‘some real-life stories to the plot.

He continued: “I’ve had this in mind for quite a while now, a story with the Peakys during the Second World War, and I’ve picked up three true stories that I’m integrating into the film.

“True, sort of secret and unknown stories about the Second World War, and [I’ve] involved the Peaky’s in there.

“I’m always interested because with the Second World War there was so much going on and so much death and destruction, that lots of things happened that didn’t really make it into the history books. So it’s those things I’m focusing on.”

Knight had also previously mentioned that a Peaky Blinders spinoff series was in the works, however, he would not be involved with the scriptwriting process.

Not much is known about the show except that it would possibly be set in the ‘1950s’, as he told BBC Midlands Today.

Peaky Blinders first aired in 2013 and is based on the real-life gang of the same name in Birmingham that existed in the late 19th century.

The show has an average Rotten Tomatoes score of 94 per cent, with Seasons Two, Three, and Six all achieving 100 per cent on the popular film website.

Peaky Blinders would also win Best Drama Series at the 2018 BAFTA awards and would also win two awards at the National Television Awards in 2020, including Best Actor for Cillian Murphy.

All six seasons of Peaky Blinders are available on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
