Rachel Riley is facing a backlash after calling Johnny Depp a ‘monster’ amid his defamation trial against Amber Heard.
The Countdown presenter recently took to Twitter and quoted a tweet from a fellow user, which read: “If you are condoning this treatment of victims you are helping to ensure that abusers are allowed to continue.
“After 12 beatings being proved by #AmberHeard including one that lasted 3 DAYS, she should be able to say ‘I survived domestic abuse’ without a $100million bounty on her head.”

After sharing this, Riley wrote: “This thread, 1000 times over. There has already been a judgement (so detailed it’s 129 pages) showing Depp to be a monster.”
The 36-year-old then shared a screenshot of a Depp message – which has been shown as evidence in the trial.
She went on to add: “How so many people can help him abuse his victim now is completely sickening.”
After reading Riley’s thoughts on the high-profile case, many have slammed her in the comments.
Responding to the posts, one commented: “Rachel Riley saying she wouldn’t wish Johnny Depp on her worst enemy is a joke, right? I wouldn’t wish Riley on anyone full stop.”

Another fumed: “What is Rachel Riley’s problem? She’s really gunning for Johnny Depp and she’s never even met him.”
However, others have defended Riley, with one saying: “You are very brave to post this – I see the baying mob of Depp obsessives and plain old misogynists have already started in.
“Thank you for speaking out.”
Depp is suing Amber Heard for $50million over her 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post. Although she never mentioned the Pirates of the Caribbean star by name, he has alleged that the actress implied he is a ‘domestic abuser’ in the piece.
