There are plenty of bizarre dating trends, from ‘fluid bonding’ to ‘zombieing’ – but the rainbow kiss definitely takes the cake.

This explicit term is going viral on TikTok as countless videos are popping up on the platform about it.

While it’s left many people confused – and a little horrified – others are wishing they had never found out what it entails.

So if you’re curious about the rainbow kiss, here’s what it means and whether it’s actually safe to do.

What is a rainbow kiss?

Although it may sound like one of the most romantic kisses, a rainbow kiss is actually considered gross by many people.

It involves a man going down on a woman in the 69 position while she is on her period, and the woman also performs o*** on the man.

The man’s mouth fills with period while the woman’s is filled with the man’s e***ulate – which is where the rainbow comes in.

Often, people confuse this term with ‘snowballing’, which is a similar kind of act which involves the man e***ulating into the woman’s mouth, and he then kisses her to suck the s**en back into his own.

They will then exchange the s**en back and forth.

Many people have taken to social media and shared their disgust at the trend, with one person writing: “Should have stayed curious, to be honest.”

Another adds: “I should have minded my business.”

While somebody else comments: “Who would do that? Like bro.”

“I’m not good after learning,” says a fourth.

Is the rainbow kiss safe?

The rainbow kiss is probably not the safest thing you could be getting up to with your partner, especially if you don’t know them well and aren’t aware of their s**ual health status.

Both s***en and period blood can contain potentially infectious pathogens which may cause viruses such as HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis.

By participating in a rainbow kiss, it is very easy to pass on STDs and STIs.

Heather Irobunda, MD tells Cosmopolitan: “If you are unsure of your partner’s STD status, you should not be sharing rainbow kisses.”

It is also important to consider consent, as not everyone is going to like the idea of mixing s**en and period blood together.
