Stephen King has urged horror fans to watch a Netflix movie which viewers are calling one of the ‘scariest’ things they’ve ever seen.

The film stars Downtown Abbey star Hugh Bonneville and 1917’s George Mackay and debuted on the streaming service earlier this year.

Stephen King, who is best known for writing ‘The Shining’ and ‘IT’ among other horror classics, praised the movie on Twitter.

The ‘Misery’ writer posted: “Want a tight little thriller that will remind you of Ruth Rendell and Patricia Highsmith?

“Try I Came By (Netflix). It does the job.”

Ruth Rendell and Patricia Highsmith are both authors who had a reputation for writing psychological thrillers.

The thriller follows a young graffiti artist who discovers a shocking secret that would put him and his loved ones in danger.

I Came By’s director, Babak Anvari, was touched by King’s comment and in response said: “This means the world to me! Your book ‘On Writing’ was one of the first books that taught me about storytelling.

“Thank you so much! I am so happy that you enjoyed it!”

“I came by on Netflix is the best thing I’ve watched in agesssss,” expressed someone else.

A third fan praised the Paddington actor, as they shared: “Watched I Came By on Netflix. What a great film.

“Hugh Bonneville gives a brilliantly unnerving performance. That’s all I’m going to say cos I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.”

Another viewer posted: “I Came By on Netflix had me yelling and screaming. I highly recommend!”
