Jussie Smollett has sparked outrage after being released from jail after just six nights of his 150-day sentence.

The former Empire star, who was found guilty of lying to the police about being the victim of a hate crime, was reportedly let go on a personal recognisance bond of $150,000.

According to reports, Smollett’s defence attorney, Nenye Uche, informed reporters outside Cook County Jail that the actor ‘refused to eat’ during his prison time.

Uche is believed to have stated: “‘Ice water, that’s been his food and liquid. I can only imagine if I was in jail for something I didn’t do, I wouldn’t be eating.”

After hearing that Smollett ‘wouldn’t eat’ during his six-night stay in jail, people have taken to social media and blasted the 39-year-old for having star ‘privilege’.

One tweeted: “Cry baby coward Jussie Smollett released from jail.”

Another added: “Jussie Smollett released from jail already, claiming he was the victim of a racist justice system. What a f***ing joke.”

“Celebrity privilege,” a third simply said.

A fourth claimed: “I was in Cook County Jail longer than Jussie Smollett. I missed a driving class.”

According to reports, Smollett spent just two out of six days in jail amongst the general population.

It’s believed that at some point during his sentence, he was moved to a psychiatric ward when officials grew concerned for his mental wellbeing.

Smollett’s case began in 2019 when he alleged to Chicago police that he was the victim of a racial and homophobic attack.

The actor reportedly claimed that he was attacked by two men, who had followed him and yelled slurs, as he was walking down the street at night.

However, his allegations were pulled apart in the trial, where police and prosecutors argued that it was ‘staged’.

They argued that Smollett had paid brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo to carry out the incident, which they reportedly testified to later on.
